In the late sixties, husband-and-wife team Dalmau visited the Polynesian Islands for the first time. Inspired by what they saw on their trip, they opened the Polynesian bar, Hula-Hula, in Lloret de Mar in May of 1973. The Hula-Hula is located on the ground floor of c/Carme,36. It consits of a large room, dominated by a formation of trees growing out of a small pound surrounded by a waterfall, in the centre of a the room. Four tikis encircle this extravagant display. To the left and right of this are two samll bridges that lead up to a rattan seating arrangement placed a little higher off the main floor. The back wall is an eye-cathing mural with scenes from Polynesian Islands. On the opposite side is the curved bar, the back of which houses several aquariums and snake terrariums, along with shelves packed with tiki mugs. This richly decoreted bar with its beautiful tikis, peacock chairs, paintings and fauna, was designed to accommodate 250 visitors and is due shortly for a renovation. The owners assured me that despite the modernisation, Hula-Hula would retain its autentic atmosphere.
